Kristan is active in the criminal defense and legal community. Kristan accepts appointments from the Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel (“ADC”) in Boulder County and Jefferson County courts. ADC is an association of qualified private criminal defense lawyers who represent indigent people eligible for court appointed counsel when the public defender has a conflict in representing them.

Kristan founded the New Lawyer Division of the Criminal Defense Bar to establish networking and mentoring opportunities for new lawyers (defined as seven years of less in the practice of criminal defense). As head of that division, Kristan plans social and criminal defense training events for new lawyers. In 2004, Kristan volunteered her time as assistant coach to the Boulder High School Mock Trial Team which took Third place in the State finals. Kristan was also co-chair of the Boulder County Bar Association New/Young Lawyer Division from 2002-2004. Kristan is a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar where, in addition to heading the New Lawyer Division, she also serves on the Events Committee.
