After
graduating from Golden High School, I attended and graduated
cum laude from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
I received my law degree from the University of Texas
School of Law, currently ranked by U.S. News and World
Report as the 15th best law school in the nation out
of more than 170 schools.
Following
law school, I returned to Colorado as a member of Timothy
McVeigh’s defense team and worked for a respected
Denver based private investigation firm before accepting
a position as a trial attorney with the Colorado Office
of the State Public Defender. I started in the busy
Denver office and later moved to the Boulder office.
The
three years I spent as a public defender not only solidified
my commitment to defending the rights of people charged
with a crime but also gave me the experience to handle
a wide range of criminal matters.
I
left the Public Defender’s office in 1999 to join
Banashek & Talkington, a prominent Boulder criminal
defense firm. In the Fall of 2002, Banashek & Talkington
dissolved and the time was right for me to open my own
firm. Since opening The Law Office of Kristan Wheeler,
I have continued to defend the rights of people charged
with DUIs to Class 1 felonies. My office is located
close to the Boulder courthouse in the Historic Highland
Building.
